Research: The Purpose of A Title Sequence
It can be said from a general point of view the purpose of a title sequence is to inform the audience on the personnel behind the film, and to introduce the underlying themes, plot points, genre, and setting of the film. However a more insightful point of view may say that the title sequence acts to do this and more: to put the audience in the right frame of mind to experience the film the way the creators intended. This can be achieved through many means, a superhero film may use an animated sequence ridden with iconography relating to the hero in question, or less a elaborately a sci-fi film may use the simple backdrop of space with yellow text ascending into it. No matter how it is viewed, the title sequence serves to place the audience members within the film and heighten their experience of the film.
